Custom-made Ceramic
and Glass Components

Silicon Carbide

Silicon carbide is an important technical ceramic that can be manufactured by a number of different methods including hot pressing and reaction bonding. It is very hard, with good wear and corrosion resistance, making it particularly suitable for use as nozzles, liners and kiln furniture. High thermal conductivity and low thermal expansion also mean that silicon carbide has excellent thermal shock properties.

Characteristics of silicon carbide include:

  • High hardness
  • High thermal conductivity
  • High strength
  • Low thermal expansion
  • Excellent thermal shock resistance
