Alumino Silicate Glass

Alumino silicate glass is a less well known type of glass that finds application as a gauge glass due to high operating temperature and good thermal shock properties. For these reasons it can operate at temperature levels above those of borosilicate. However, caution needs to be taken as alumino silicate glass is less chemically resistant and is often used with mica protection on the media side of the glass in certain operating conditions. It can be readily supplied in sheet and tube form.

Characteristics of alumino silicate glass include:

  • Higher maximum operating temperature than borosilicate glass
  • Good thermal shock properties
  • Particularly suitable for use as a gauge glass
  • Should be used with a mica shield where chemical attack may occur
